Final week of nominations: NHBF Top 100 Influencer 2025
The National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) is thrilled to announce a major evolution of its highly anticipated Top 100 Influencer Index. Now, in its fifth year, due to overwhelming demand and the incredible talent within the sector, the awards will be divided into two distinct categories: The Top 50 Hair Influencer Index and the Top 50 Beauty Influencer Index. As the NHBF Top 100 Influencer Index continue to grow, this separation ensures a greater focus on the achievements of professionals across both sectors, giving more recognition to the creators, educators, and trendsetters shaping the sector.
The NHBF Top 100 Influencer Index is open for entries and is open to all hair and beauty professionals working in the sector who meet the criteria below.
State of the Industry Survey April 2025
Following on from a challenging Autumn Budget and no good news for hair and beauty in the Spring Statement, we're keen to hear your latest feedback on how business is going.
This survey will feed your views directly into government, including as the Low Pay Commission consider recommendations around wage rates for 2026.
Access the latest quarterly survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GS3Z5G2
The questions ask for feedback on business activity, staffing, the specific impact of wage rises in 2025 and 2026 and what you want from the government.
The deadline for responses is Monday 14 April at 10am.
The survey should take around 8 minutes. Your responses are strictly confidential.
Neonatal care leave and pay rights for new parents
New regulations introduced by the Government will entitle employees in England, Scotland, and Wales to Neonatal Care Leave and Pay. Employed parents may take up to 12 weeks of leave if their child requires neonatal care within 28 days of their birth and spends seven or more continuous days in hospital. They will be entitled to a statutory payment of either £187.18 per week for 12 weeks, or 90 per cent of their average earnings for the entire 12-week period, whichever is lower.
Campaigning for you – business rates
NHBF submitted a response to the HM Treasury consultation on business rates reform last week. The response uses your input from the Straightening out the costs report and State of the Industry survey for January. It argues to maintain and extend Small Business Rates Relief in England and give more flexibility around rate relief to businesses with multiple salons. We have also collaborated with other trade associations in the retail and high streets to develop our response.
Campaigning for you – Ministerial online meeting
NHBF attended an online briefing with Sarah Jones MP, Minister of State for Industry in the Department for Business & Trade. The theme of the session was the Industrial Strategy and NHBF has fed views into this. The government has chosen eight sectors that will drive growth. NHBF asked a question about the retail sector (including hair and beauty) not being included in the Industrial Strategy and being forgotten about. The Minister said that the intention was that other sectors wouldn’t be overlooked but that the 8 priority sectors was a way to help the UK pitch for investment from around the world. They would act as an ‘arrow head’ with the expectation that the broader economy ‘would rise too’.
