The APPG on the Hair Industry (set up by the Hair and Barber Council), Prostate Cancer UK and the Movember Foundation were delighted to hold a wet shave in Parliament on Wednesday to mark the end of Movember.
The event, which took place in the Parliamentary John Simon hair salon with support from Aston & Fincher, was designed to raise awareness of the health risks that men face, whilst celebrating the skills of British barbers.
Movember, the month formerly known as ‘November’, encourages men and women to grow a moustache, commit to a physical activity Move challenge or Host a Movember event to raise funds for men’s health and stop men dying too young.
With money raised, the Foundation has funded over 1,200 game-changing programmes in prostate cancer, testicular cancer and suicide prevention around the world, whilst positively challenging the way in which men’s health issues are researched and addressed.
MPs, their staff and others who work on the parliamentary estate came together to celebrate the effort that everyone had put into raising awareness and funds for men’s health and to celebrate the end of the month with a complementary shave.
John McNally MP, Chair of the APPG on the Hair Industry and a former barber said:
“British barbers are the best in the world and the APPG on the Hair Industry are delighted to showcase these skills whilst supporting Movember for the second year running.
“I hope that I will be dusting off my razor blades in Parliament for Movember for many years to come!”
Paul Mitcheson, Regional Director for Europe at the Movember Foundation said:
“Barbering is an integral part of the moustache ritual and we very much appreciate the support of John McNally MP and the APPG on the Hair Industry for raising awareness for Movember in Parliament.
“We must work together to stop men dying too young, and it’s great to see the barbers grooming the MPs at their Movember finale, and fantastic that they have all been raising awareness and funds for vital men’s health issues in Parliament this past month.
