Scotland: Resource Spending Review

Scotland's Finance Secretary Kate Forbes has delivered a statement to Parliament on how the Scottish Government will focus public finances in the coming years to tackle child poverty, address the climate crisis, strengthen the public sector as Scotland recovers from Covid and grow a stronger, fairer and greener economy.

 The Review includes:

  • Capital investment of £581 million to support the economy.
  • Continuing through the Inward Investment Plan to attract high-quality inward investment in energy transition and the space sector.
  • Embedding entrepreneurship in education to give young people opportunities to start and grow businesses.

Checking employee pay

The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Department urges employees to check that their pay is in line with national legal standards. The Government has also launched a site to inform the public of types of support they may be entitled to in light of the cost of living crisis.

To ensure salon owners are paying the correct national standards, visit our National Minimum Wage page on our website for full details.

UK production output falls

Recession warning bells are ringing as the S&P Global Composite Purchasing Managers' Index fell by more than expected in May, indicating that economic output is slowing. This follows a collapse in consumer confidence levels, which in May fell to the lowest level since records began, Reuters reported.
