This week's update covers:

Change to PPE regulations

On 6 April 2022, the new regulations on personal protective equipment (PPE) at work came into effect, extending employers' responsibility to provide PPE and suitable training on how to use it to "workers who generally have a more casual employment relationship and work under a contract for service".

For salon and barbershop employers, they must ensure that suitable PPE is provided to 'employees' who may be exposed to a risk to their health or safety while at work. Employers need to carefully consider whether the changes to UK law apply to them and their workforce and make the necessary preparations to comply.

Salon and barbershop employees must use the PPE properly following training and instruction from their employer. If the PPE you provide is lost or defective, you should report that to your employer.

Scotland: Use of face coverings and workplace materials

The rule on wearing face coverings in most indoor public spaces and public transport changed from a legal requirement to guidance on 18 April 2022. It is strongly recommended that face coverings continue to be worn where appropriate.
