Professional Hair and Beauty Suppliers Alan Howard has chosen to donate the profits from carrier bags used in its stores to HABB.
New government legislation introduced on October 5th requires all large retailers to charge 5p per carrier bag and donate the profits to charity.
The leading wholesaler will be splitting the profits from each bag sold between the hairdressing industry’s official charity HABB – helping hairdressers in need and Macmillan cancer.
Managing director Jonathan Littler said:
It was an easy decision for us to choose HABB as one of the charities that we donate the profits from the sales of carrier bags to. All of our customers are professionals from the hair and beauty industry and it is so important to know that there is an industry charity for them to turn to if they need it.”
HABB President David Drew has thanked Alan Howard for their decision and is urging other businesses to make HABB their charity of choice too.
He said: “We are delighted that Alan Howard has chosen to donate the profits from the sales of carrier bags to HABB.
“Each year we receive hundreds of applicants from hair and beauty professionals who have fallen upon hard times and we are only able to support them with the donations from this generous industry.
“The new legislation means that all large retailers now have to charge for carrier bags and donate the profits to charity and it seems very fitting that they should choose a charity that is there to support their customers if they fall upon hard times.”
NOTE TO EDITORS: The Hair & Beauty Benevolent (HABB) is the official industry charity, dedicated to helping hair and beauty professionals facing difficulties in life. Since 1853, HABB has offered financial support and funding to individuals and their families facing illness, bereavement or financial hardship.
New government legislation introduced on October 5th means all retailers with more than 250 employers must charge 5p per carrier bag. Customers wishing to avoid charges should bring their own bag or purchase a reusable bag from the store.
