2017’s Step Up & SHINE winner completes year-long nurturing programme

19-year-old Evie Scrowston from Hays Salon in Hull embarked on a year full of education after being crowned winner of the prestigious industry competition, Step Up & SHINE in May 2017. Evie attended courses with ghd and the Sassoon Academy during the 12-month process, before ending her Step Up & SHINE journey with international hair colourist, Jack Howard at his L'Oréal Advanced Colouring Workshop.

Evie was guided through the process by her mentor and renowned hairdressing educator, Debbie G. In addition to providing constant support throughout the year, Debbie also provided Evie with the opportunity of appearing alongside her on stage at Salon International.

Evie comments:

“What a year it’s been! I went from hearing I’d won the incredible scholarship to a year full of education and training. Winning Step Up & SHINE has really helped boost my confidence as a hairdresser and has given me the push I needed to go on courses and learn new skills and techniques that will help me grow and develop in my career.

“I’m so grateful for everything that Debbie G and everyone at the NHBF and the Fellowship has done for me over the past 12 months, it’s been a life changing experience!”

In association with the NHBF and the Fellowship, Step Up & SHINE was launched in honour of industry legend, Christofer Mann to nurture one stylist with a year-long educational programme worth £2,500 each year.
